Well, I went to the Portland LJ meetup, even though I wasn't really happy with the venue thing. (They only let us pick from bars, and then they decided to split us to two venues. Suck.) It turned out a lot better than I thought it would. I went with
qousqous, since he called me and wanted to have mirth of some kind this evening. It was kind of neat, although I didn't really have any meaningful conversations with anyone. I did, however, try hard cider, and it was good. I also had scotch eggs, which are the greasy eggs of death.
I met
brad, which was also cool, although I mostly kept my mouth shut since I knew anything I tried to say would end up sounding really stupid. Not that I didn't say stupid things anyway. That seems to be my hobby.
For a better list of attendees that I'm going to bother typing out, see here: http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=shiny&itemid=7259
I am of the sleepy. *thunk*

Battle Hunter
Got your message. Yes, I meant the Battle Hunter PSX game -- best game released for the system if you ask me -- and I'm honored to be on your Friends list. I'll put you on mine, as well. Solidarity and all that. Us Battle Hunters have to stick together. And I've joined the GURPS community.
I found you almost immediately after creating my account, but I wasn't sure how to approach you without saying "so... you like Battle Hunter, eh?" Fortunately, you are less timid than I am.
We should talk at some point about the prospect of a Battle Hunter-based campaign. I've been chucking some ideas around about marketing a cyberpunk setting (possibly for d20, possibly not), and one of my sourcebook ideas is based around the Battle Hunter concept.
Oh, and I'm sorry to hear about the greasy eggs of death. That can't be good.

Re: Battle Hunter
Date: 2002-07-24 10:34 am (UTC)Don't worry about approaching people who list the same interest with you if you are only the second person to list it. I know I'd been waiting for *months* for someone else to list Battle Hunter as an interest. (Interests don't show as links on your userinfo page until two people list them, they're just text until then.) ^_^
Hmm...I don't know about a Battle Hunter based campaign, because I think a lot of the fun of the game is in the user interface and occasionally unclear things in the game itself. (I remember how long it took me to figure out what they were talking about with the disks getting you backgrounds. I kept thinking it had something to do with the BGMs.) The setting does have some promise for a cyberpunk game, though. It wouldn't work well for my current group of players, but I've played with some groups where it would.
The greasy eggs of death weren't actually that bad, it was just something where a little bit goes a long way and there were too many of them. (Scotch eggs, if you're curious. A hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage, battered and deep fried.) I think about half an egg would have been tasty, but I had two whole eggs to get through and it was just too much greasy and heavy food, especially for such a hot night.
Re: Battle Hunter
I find the setting to be the most _compelling_ thing about the game, however -- you can't see your hunter's surroundings in the game due to graphical limitations, but I imagine an underground maze where you can drop through a manhole and find yourself on the 36th floor of a buried office building, and where the door to the office you find yourself in leads into the third car of a subway train suspended in the dirt, brick, and steel. The concept of post-apocalyptic scavengers trading "artifacts" for cash is nothing new -- it's the potential for unique location development -- the premise of the massive conglomerate "Dungeon" lying beneath the city -- that really draws me to the idea as a gamemaster.
And I have to agree -- I don't think I could have eaten more than one of those eggs. They sound _tough_.
