Back from the concert

LiveJournal ate my post. I'm getting tired of this. I want a real browser again, which would help a lot. IE is sucking big, cranky, munky-flavored rocks.

Anyway, I went to the concert. Lucky Lab has really slow service. Upstairs has very live acoustics, which worked well for this show since the audience was respectful. Concert was good. Heather Alexander will be playing again in two weeks, and I'll probably go again.

Had 2 pints. Throat hurts. Bah. Mom didn't bug me about drinking, which is a nice change from last year when she wouldn't let me have one wine cooler over an hour before going home. The stout at Lucky Lab is ok but nothing exceptional. Better than at the pub in the little town on the train ride Saturday, although that's not much of a feat (that was the lightest-tasting dark beer I'd ever had), but not as good as at McMenamin's.

LiveJournal tried to eat my post again, but this time I was too smart for it and had the damn thing in clipboard. Fuck spellcheck, it's causing badness. Y'all will just have to deal with my spelling errors.

Also, it didn't post with my music, mood, or pic keyword. Editing to fix. GRRHRHRHRHRAAAAH

Yeah . . . major problem I have with posting big stuff web-based. When trying to spell check or preview, it is often lost. Which is why, when talking to a friend of mine with whom I had long-winded discussions, I took to writing it all in Notepad first . . . granted, that didn't help if the computer crashed . . .

I hope you get better luck with it soon, in any case. :)

Yeah, I used to be in the habit of copying everything to the clipboard right before I hit post, but LiveJournal's been a lot better lately so I've been lax about it. Yesterday's problem was just a loose nut at the keyboard problem, really, but it was particularly aggravating since it must have taken multiple, specific keystrokes to delete everything and I somehow managed to hit them on accident with one hand while the other one (and my line-of-sight) were busy with something else entirely.

However, most of the problem is that my computer is broken so I'm using my dad's, which means that nothing is set up quite the way I want it and I don't have any of the programs I like to use available.

Is there a trick to enjoying beer? I mean, is it an acquired taste, and, if so, how does one go about acquiring it?

Well, I got the 6 beer sampler (which has teeny little glasses, so it's really not *that* much beer, just a bit more than a pint total, I think) at McMenamins, and tried them all to figure out which ones I liked. I happened to like both stout and porter as soon as I tried them. Of course, I also liked crappy black coffee as soon as I tried it (in elementary school), so I'm just a big fan of dark, bitter, and vaguely burned-tasting drinks. (Oddly enough, I like my grilled cheese sandwiches barely toasted and not burned at all, and the same with my toast.)

If you want, next time I'm up there or you're down here we can go to McMenamins and get the sampler, see if you just haven't found "your" beer yet. (Or you could do this without any help from me, I suppose.) What have you tried? What other kinds of drinks (both alcoholic and not) do you like? Hmm...if I remember, you like kind of fruit-flavored stuff. They make vaguely fruity beer, have you tried that? (At McMenamins, they have Ruby, which is a paler beer with raspberry, for example.)

I think to some degree beer is an acquired taste for most people. The trick is probably to find the one you like the most and have it once a month or so until you get used to the taste. I wouldn't really know, because my reaction to dark beer was "The part of the coffee taste I like without the caffeine, and cold! Yay!" (caffeine keeps me awake and makes me nervous, so I try to avoid it most of the time), but I know I'm feeling more charitable to other beer than I used to. Haven't tried IPA again, though. I'm pretty sure I still wouldn't like the aftertaste.

yes indeed, I tend to like fruity stuff (I've been told that the technical name for such things is "froo-froo fruity girlie drinks.") I'm fine with that. And I don't really know - I think most of the stuff I've had (american swill-beer notwithstanding) has been super-dark beers they serve at pubs around here. I remember one type that I had after the qualifying exam that actually had coffee in it. I think I just haven't had any beer to speak of that wasn't at least twice as bitter as anything I actually like.......

Does IE not save what you have filled out when you hit the "back" button?

No, it does not. I have not found a setting I can change to fix it, either. IE is just generally a bastard. It only lets me view source about half of the time lately, for example.
