By the way, remember when you posted about trying to get Ribon? My friend reminded me-- I dunno how out of the way the Kinokuniya is (hell, I don't even remember WHERE it is), but you can get them there (you can even order just one or subscribe to them, my friend does the latter). It's spiffy. And Ribon comes with all this free stuff, too.
Yeah, I knew that you could get it at Kinokuniya (back when I had money I spent waaay too much of it there, mostly on CDs). It was mostly that my mom asked me "what can I bring you back from Japan?" that provoked the whole getting-Japanese-language-manga thing. It's funny. Both my dad and stepdad have had to go to Japan on business. (Though Tom has to go fairly regularly, whereas I think dad mostly needed to go back when he was working on that one kanji-based project for Nike. Dad, on the other hand, is going to look into whether or not he can use interoffice mail to let me import stuff one of these days when I have money again.)
I didn't end up getting Ribon, but I did get several other magazines, one of which did carry a series I follow (I can't remember the magazine, but the series is Planet Ladder), so that was neat. The basic problem was that I was trying to explain what I wanted to my mother, who neither reads comics nor speaks Japanese, and Toshi, who has two boys and no girls and thus isn't up on shojo manga. It doesn't really matter though, I'm happy with what I got. I also got a video game magazine. It's amazing how neat every game looks when they all have nice art and you can't read any of the articles so you have no idea if they have a good game engine or not. It came with a demo cd, which I'm somewhat scared to try.
