Bowling idea UPDATE!

Tigard Bowl, where I had my 10th birthday, doesn't have cosmic bowling until 5:30, making it possible to have a party there in the afternoon without removing my eardrums first. They are at a location that I believe is pretty convenient, since it is on the 12 bus line and in the general part of town near me. They also have a pizza restaurant that I remember having had pretty good pizza when I was a kid.

Now, the question becomes one of cost. There's what I can afford to spend on people, and then there's what my guests might be willing to chip in. I also really need to know if our group is going to be over or under 6 people (counting me), since that's the maximum on a lane.



Their prices are as follows:

Per person/game: $3.50 each (does not include $3 shoe rental for those of us who don't own bowling shoes: I have a pair of fairly narrow women's 9s someone could borrow if that happens to be their size)

Or

per lane/hour: $35 which includes shoe rentals. I believe this is our better bet. It would give us a fixed time, and it comes out cheaper per person if we have 6 on a lane and each bowl one game, slightly higher otherwise but it's likely we'd get in more than one game each then, too. Unless, of course, people own their own bowling shoes, which I do not believe to be true for this group.

They also have 1 or 2 hour packages that include pizza and soda afterward for $60 or $75 dollars per lane. I think I'm going to skip those and let people order pizzas as a separate logistical and financial task after we're done bowling, since that raises the cost per guest pretty damn high.

Here's what I can totally afford: to rent one lane for an hour for $35. I'd really rather have two lanes so we could bowl league-style (it's faster and more fun), but $70 seems a bit rich for my budget right now so I could probably only do this if other people could chip in some (I'm waffling: If I give up some luxuries like eating out the rest of the month, I can probably do the $70 price, that's just a lot of money for me). I think my ideal vision involves about 8-10 people and 2 lanes, but I really won't know if that's a reasonable number until I start calling non-LJ people to invite them.

I also can provide a cake, but I can't buy everybody pizza and beer. I could probably swing the $60 one lane one hour and one pizza package financially, but I can't really see 6 adults sharing a single pizza, particularly not likely particular combinations of 6 adults since some of us are kind of picky eaters. I also see that as kind of a waste of money since it comes with soda and I personally plan on ordering beer if they have it and milk if they don't. My guess is some people would rather have salads or other things than pizza anyway, so I'd rather let everyone fend for themselves or make brief pizza-sharing alliances after we get there.



Thus, I need to know a few things to know if this is a good birthday option, or if I should come up with another idea.

I ♥ bowling. My problem now is mostly financial. With gas prices the way they are, getting into portland might be problematic for me. If we decide to come up that weekend, I will come to the party. If we don't go to portland that weekend, let me know if/when you do something in eugene.

The plan is to do something in Eugene on Monday night (the 15th). Don't feel you have to come to the one in Portland! While I obviously would enjoy your attendance at any party I throw, I am doing something in your city two days later so it would make way more sense for you to just come to that one unless you're going to be in Portland anyway.
