Lesson plan dream

Last night, I had a dream in which writing lesson plans involved catching gnomes and then possibly biting them.

I am confused as to how this would help, but believe it might be more fun than how it actually works.

Bill and Bob are in the middle of a gnome-hunting expedition. Bill runs due north at 4 meters per second, while Bob runs due west at 3 meters per second. Assuming they left the same spot at the same time, how far apart are they after 10 seconds?

A tasty gnome leaves Gnomeville at 4:00, and walks east down the road to Antignomeberg at 3 miles per hour. At 5:00, Jane, hoping to harpoon the gnome and turn him into gnome pot pie, leaves Antignomeberg heading west on the same road at 4 miles per hour. Assuming that the two towns are 20 miles apart, when will the gnome meet his end?
