What is good in rum?
Sep. 1st, 2004 09:40 pmI have this theory that I should pick up another bottle of hard liquor each time I have a party, until I have a reasonable selection. So anyway, this time I was thinking rum, to go with the Coke. Unless most of you who will be attending prefer gin. Anyway, what's a good type of rum to get so it is not terrible, but also not too nice to mix with things? I am clueless about such things, as I drink beer. And cider. I should really pick up more beer and cider. Tomorrow.
Tonight, I got corn on the cob, ice cream, root beer, german sausages, sausage buns, and hamburger buns (we already have plenty of hamburger patties). I did not buy new kazoos, as I all I could find were the kind that didn't kazoo last time. I wanted tiny harmonicas, but couldn't find any of those either. This party will be sadly lacking in self-made music.

To have a great bar where you can serve a multitude of different drinks you'll want a good rum.
I'm going to write up a list of liquors that anybody would need to have a good starting bar. But I can give you a few here.
-beer Refrigerate.
-white wine Chardonnay. Refrigerate.
-red wine Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or Shiraz.
-vodka Absolut, Finlandia, Stolichnaya. Freeze.
-rum, light Bacardi Silver or Havana Club.
-tequila Ideally, look for something that's 100% blue agave -- Sauza Hornitos is reasonably-priced and good. Especially important if you're doing shots -- you can get away with the cheaper stuff for mixing.
-gin There’s no sense drinking a Martini made of cheap, dishwatery-tasting gin, so I’m willing to splurge a bit on this. Beefeater is a good, moderately-priced choice; Bombay Sapphire is more expensive but very tasty. Freeze if desired.
-whiskey, blended Seagram’s VO Canadian or Seven Crown is a good choice, and cheap. Crown Royal is a bit pricier but also good.
-vermouth, dry Martini & Rossi, Noilly-Prat, Cinzano. Refrigerate after opening.
-triple sec or Cointreau
-dessert liqueur Bailey’s Irish Cream, Kahlua or the like.
I'd recommend and irish cream(bailey's is well advertised but FAR from the best) and Kahlua.
basic liqueurs will cost about$5-10 but will add some flavors.
amaretto & butterscotch(butter shots)
also you want the right mixers and garnishes
lemons
limes
cocktail olives
sugar
coarse salt
fruit juices Orange, cranberry, grapefruit. Refrigerate.
fizzy mixers Tonic water, cola, ginger ale. Refrigerate.
What is cool about orange, cranberry juice and grapefruit juices is that mixed with vodka you can make various drinks.
vodka & cran=cape cod or vodka cran(depending on where in country you're from)
Vodka + orange
vodka + cran + grape fr
Vodka + grapef + orange
vodka + cran + orange
vodka + grapef
all taste great! :)
I can email you a copy of some drinks, you can print it out and make them. just reply and I'll get that to ya. :)
