Reminder: Party on Friday
Aug. 31st, 2004 09:18 pmThis is just a reminder that I am having a going-away party on this Friday, the 3th, at 1900 at my dad's house. Please comment here if you did not comment before, or call me and let me know if you're coming.
Feel free to spread the word throughout any of the rest of my group of friends that you may have access to. I'm not specifically trying to avoid inviting anyone (hence the public post on the internet and all), I'm just really busy and don't have time to make a lot of phone calls. I should probably at least call Jeff, though, although he'll probably be busy on this short of notice.
Also, this would be a good time to let me know if you have any favorite foods (ideally grill-related) or beverages (ideally not grill-related) that I should consider. Those of you who enjoy beverages of an alcoholic nature and not either dark beer, brandy, or weird flavored liquors should particularly speak up (or bring your own favorites), as my liquor cabinet is a bit limited and I don't tend to drink beer I can see through or distinguish from coffee by color alone. Those of you with particular taste in soda may wish to do the same, as I've picked up a 2-liter of Coke, and otherwise will have the Weird Hippy Beverages that I tend to impulse buy, but little else. I will probably have both sparkling and pink lemonades. Those of you who are vegetarians should strongly consider bringing your own food, as I am not particularly knowledgeable about what is good in such things. I plan on serving some combination of burgers and chicken breasts, unless someone has another idea that sounds better. Unlike my birthday party, I will try to serve dinner earlier and not have more than 2 or 3 drinks before firing up the grill.

Date: 2004-09-01 06:18 am (UTC)You are excused from coming to my party on the grounds that you need to get ready for yours, it is your birthday, and I can't guarantee that my house is childproof. (You'd be welcome to come if you wanted to, but I know you'll need to get other things done. I'd really worry about a toddler in the house, though, just because we aren't set up for that at all and have dangerous things like medicine, alcohol, and things that look like toys and aren't to be played with on low shelves. I don't know if Felix is still at a stage where you worry about medicine and alcohol, but I still have a tendency to play with things that look like toys and aren't, so I assume that stage is still going strong for him as well. ^_^)

Date: 2004-09-01 08:42 am (UTC)My main reason for commenting was to point out that your post sais "Friday the 4th" and one of those two dates doesnt match to the calendar.
The nearest bus out here comes up to the Edgefield. Then it's a walk through the golf course to the 14th hole and up the path by the creek to our neighborhood. We're about a block up the hill. Our party is really only planned for noon to 5 though...so bussing it out here would eat out a good chunk of your day. Dont sweat it.
I will have to pass on your party too, I'm afraid...as I believe there are some sort of plans underfoot the details of which I am unaware. :)

Date: 2004-09-01 12:55 am (UTC)or corn on a cob. do you people have that? in my country, we often eat corn directly from the cob. with our hands. I know that in kentucky, home of fried chicken as a finger-food, corn on the cob is eaten with a fork. go figure.
i also know this other weird american who eats his corn with mayo and cheese. ick.

Date: 2004-09-01 06:33 am (UTC)We have corn on the cob. However, our local crop was very early this year due to the weather, and it's getting late enough in the season that it can be hard to find and not very good when it is found. I saw some on a truck the other day when driving to Seattle, though, so it may still be in stores (it disappears every winter and makes me sad until it shows up again in late spring or early summer). I seem to recall it being available until October most years, so there is hope. I understand neither eating chicken with fingers (except chicken nuggets, which only have a nodding acquaintance with chicken anyway) nor eating corn with a fork. Of course, I eat pizza with a fork, so what do I know? (I know that pizza is good when eaten with a fork, that's what I know.)
I could see cheese being good on corn, but I could see cheese being good on pretty much anything. It is part of my "everything could be eaten with either cheese or chocolate" theory of the universe. My mother has a somewhat different theory, but she is lactose intolerant and allergic to chocolate. However, corn is traditionally eaten either as-is or with butter.
I like food. But not oatmeal. Which I am having for breakfast again anyway.

Date: 2004-09-03 05:21 pm (UTC)I know this is very very late, but I'm behind on LJ. I'd like to stop by and say hello/goodbye. I can't stay for too long, maybe 2 hours. Is that ok?
