Schedule/to do list

This is mostly for my benefit, but it could also be a ploy for sympathy and/or attention.



Aug. 22nd: Anime club at Gia's

Aug. 28th: Sean party (1)

Sept. 4th-6th: Kumoricon (2)

Sept. 11th: Unclear. Kelly's wedding if I'm invited (3) (since I haven't gotten an invitation, I'm leaning toward "not", which makes sense since weddings get expensive quickly with each person you add), spending time with sweetie-Chris otherwise since I have no time to see him between now and then.

Sept. 17th-19th: Beach with mom and grandma.

Sept. 24th-26th: Chris.

That's every weekend until October. Fun things, but that's *every weekend until October*.

To be ready for these things, I need to:

(1) Create a toga-like object. This has the sub-tasks of figuring out what one looks like, sewing one, figuring out appropriate accessories, and possibly figuring out how to hum a few bars and fake a pair of sandals. Also possibly locate a white leotard-type bodysuit to wear under it, which the outlet mall I went to today failed utterly to have in my size. This isn't required, but it's a good thing to be able to fall back on if my sewing skills fail on me and my toga-type-object doesn't hold up well. I hope to have this completed before next weekend, so I can focus on

(2) My costume for Kumoricon. I have delusions of finally finishing the same costume I've been poking at for about a year and half now. I think I have the right fabric for the skirt, so I should be able to at least piece together the dress next weekend if I finish the toga this week. That would give me next week and whatever part of the next weekend that I don't spend drunk and in Seattle to get the boot covers finished, the hair sticks figured out, and the skimps fitting properly (they're finished but I'm not happy with the fit and may try again with stretch fabric) and still have a week of evenings to fuss with other accessories and finishing touches.

(3) I need to figure out a gift if I'm going to the wedding, or even if I'm not, really. I have some ideas, but I'm not quite sure which is the best idea, and several of them would also involves some quality time with the sewing machine, which realistically I'm not going to have between now and then.



I think I'm going to give up sleep.

That is quite busy! I know things for the first three weekends on that list.... but after that I have no clue! I'm moving into my new apt the 22nd (and, also begining the process of joining my church), on the weekend of the 28th, I'm going to be cramming harmonic oscilator formulas into my head... and the weekend after (the fourth) we are going to have a massivly huge apartment welcoming/qual passing party!!! Whohoo!! You are, of course, invited in spirit. We won't know the results yet... but honestly, I think pass or fail we all deserve a party! I think your schedule sounds like fun, though... good luck with your toga! The only togaish party I actually went to we all dressed up like greek goods, and I was designated Mars. So- I didn't wear a toga at all, rather a short skirt made my stapling pieces of pointyish cardboard to a pair of gym shorts, and a shieldy shirt, and a shield, and a helement. I put a picture of my freakin' planet on my sheild... and still no one could figure out who I was!!

I would come to your party, except for the fact that I exist in a state of "not being in Illinois" that I find rather hard to overcome on such short notice. Plus the whole "convention" thing and the whole "obviously not taking the qual myself" thing. I wish you well with your upcoming adventures, however.

That reminds me of in high school where we all made up our own pantheon and decorated the social studies room as shrines to various deities of it for winder solstice one year. (That was the year that the social studies teacher was going through some kind of mental breakdown and later walked out in the middle of a class saying he was going to go sell "guns, drugs, and small children" and stuck us with a totally unprepared drama teacher as a sub for the rest of the year, but the shrine thing was still pretty fun. And the sub let us watch half of "Trainspotting" before he thought better of it, so it was a pretty entertaining year overall.)

Well, it isn't absolutely necessary to wear a "perfect" toga, exactly. In point of fact, I was planning to drape a bedsheet mostly around myself and keep it together with some safety pins......

Also, it looks like a swimsuit will be a better call than a bodysuit (especially a white one), since we're still trying to put in a hot tub for the party. On second thought, I won't object for a second if you come in in a white bodysuit. But, y'know, just FYI.

I didn't realize the 'qous was back! Feel free to bring him, or bring him and xiara, or whatever. I think I need to redo my "who got the party notice" entry, since not everyone has gotten it....

Clearly, Sean needs to have another party in another few weeks at his new place, and it could be a dual purpose "welcome back Chris" and "new place for Sean" party, and both of those sound vaguely like they could be "American Girls" titles, so I'm going to bed...

My bikini is all kinds of bright colors, so it might look kinda funny under a toga, but I'll see. That would certainly be a better option from both a time and cost perspective, though.

Muslin is incredibly cheap ($0.99/yd), so I went out and bought some to sew a toga out of, as my bedsheets are plaid flannel. It's basically white bedsheet material anyway (I used some for my ghost costume last Halloween, which is another white-bedsheet-costume). Being me, I will probably spend more time than I should fussing at it and trying to get it to look nice, thus missing the point entirely.

Ok here's what happened. Ryan was looking at my livejournal entry about wedding invitations and thought that Chris P.'s entry saying "same deal as algeh" meant "i live at the same house" and so made one invitation for both of you. But I said "oh no, they live in different cities, we should send them separate invitations" and now the invitation is sitting on my kitchen counter waiting to be divided into two invitations and you'll get it as soon as I do it which will hopefully be when I get home tonight.

Ah. Good to know. I understand about these things, as I still have a giant stack of high school graduation invitations (which it is quite clearly too late to send out now). I shall keep the day open for you, and commence gift-procurement and/or creation activities. Also confirm that I own something wearable, as I don't think I've attended a wedding within 4 years or 40 pounds.
