Well, I once again have not done any homework yet this weekend. It seems that I just am incapable of doing homework except on Sunday nights.
Friday night Chris and I went shopping. I bought the 1st and 5th volumes of the Fushigi Yugi manga, some other random manga, a Babylon 5 script for Day of the Dead, and 2 books on amine and magna that actually might be useful for my thesis at Powells. Then we went to Toys R Us because I was looking for the D-Power, but they didn't have it so I just bought a huge bag of Dum-Dums and a huge bag of Nerds from their leftover Halloween candy. We went to Barnes and Noble looking for the 4th volume of Fushigi Yugi, but they only had the 2nd and 5th >.<. I'll have to poke around and see if I can track it down. I don't want to read the 5th one until I read the 4th one, assuming I can track it down somehow. I was lucky to find the first one used at Powells. I love the art in that series. If I had a scanner, a paid account and wasn't lazy (mostly the last one) I'd make a bunch of icons from it even though it's in black and white.
Yesterday, I went over to dad's house to do laundry, and I decided to clean out my car as well, since I'll be driving a bunch of people to the programming competition next weekend. It seems that my trunk got water in it somehow >.<. So now various parts of my trunk are airing out at dad's house and I am seriously annoyed. I think it's because they didn't put my spare tire back in properly last time I got a flat, and now water can get in my trunk that way. My tools didn't have too much rust on them though, so I think they'll be fine. I'm not sure about the rim of my spare tire, though. And of course a lot of the paper crap in my trunk is not in as good condition as it should be. Also, one of the layers between the spare time and the part of the trunk you put stuff in is made of pressed cardboard, and it is now all warped and waterlogged. Very not fun. So anyway, I spent all of yesterday trying to dry out my trunk. >.<. Then Chris and I went to hear the Portland Baroque Orchestra. That pretty much ate the remaining time I had. We then came back to school, and I fell asleep while he played Civ II.
Today, I pretty much ate lunch, talked with Chris and Elizabeth, came back to my room, caught up on my friends page and wrote this. Now I am off to the library to pick up a book I probably don't have time to read.

I know what you mean :::sigh:::
Date: 2001-11-04 03:23 pm (UTC)www.rightstuf.com www.animenation.com www.animecornerstore.com and a bunch of others, and if you want it in original Japanese there are places to get it, too. ^_^ (all of these places also accept credit cards so you don't have to worry about checks or money orders ^_^) What books on manga and anime did you get? I only know of a few out there and I don't especially like how they look, they tend to have come out quite a while ago so aren't very up-to-date. :P (But I prefer learning about anime and manga online, anyway ^_^)
Re: I know what you mean :::sigh:::
Date: 2001-11-04 04:04 pm (UTC)Anyway, I bought _Themes and Issues in Asian Cartooning_, which is a collection of essays on various topics by different people (which is good, it means it looks like I'm citing more different things if I use material from differnet chapters), and _Anime from Akira to Princess Mononoke: Experiencing Comtemporary Japanese Animation_, which looks to be a book length thing by one author. I'm also hoping that some of the things they cite in these books may be findable and useable as sourcesoo. I'm supposed to have at least 15 sources by December, which is getting closer every day.
Thanks for telling me about the places to order from. I think I'll check a few other local bookstores first, since that way I wouldn't have to pay shipping, but I'll try them if that doesn't pan out. I read so fast that I tend not to be too picky about what I read, otherwise I'd run out of stuff! I tend to be a little picker with manga, since I pretty much have to buy it instead of just getting it from the library, but I still tend to stick with things once I start them.
Is that userpic from The Last Unicorn? I memorized that movie at one point...I might still be able to turn off the sound and recite all the dialog...
Bleh!
Date: 2001-11-04 04:08 pm (UTC)Yeah
Date: 2001-11-04 04:56 pm (UTC)Hm... 15 sources is a lot. :P There haven't been that many books written just on anime in English... There are plenty of magazine articles, though. ^_^ If you are willing to expand, there are also books that are about manga (in English) The websites that I gave you have some other books on anime that you didn't list, you might want to check it out. ^_^ I know that shipping is a hassle... but these places are also 10-20% off, so it kinda makes up for the shipping sometimes. ^_^ (It's also better than having to pay full price and tax... oops! the tax thing is only in CA ^_^ Lucky!)
I tend to stick with things once I start them, too. More anime than manga, though... Because I always have to devote time to manga and I usually think: Why don't I watch an anime ep/movie instead? Usually the anime wins out over the manga. ^_^ (although for the stories that I like to look at the art for [I should say, all of the manga I read... because I don't really like manga that doesn't have good art, it detracts away from the story for me :P ] I will pick them up whenever I have free time.} One of the major problems that I have with reading manga and watching anime is that I insist on doing it all at once, this means that I have to find big chunks of time to read several volumes and/or issues of manga and a lot of episodes... It's a bad habit that I have where I can't just leave things hanging! (which is why I love digisubs now ^_^ Things come out almost fast enough to satisfy me :::hugs streamload and subbers::: )
Yep, this pic is from the Last Unicorn. I decided to take out the FFX icons I was using and substitute them in for some more the 200 or so icons I made (I went really overboard :P ) To be more exact the pic is from a cel that I found on eBay from the movie. I wanted the cel! It was so pretty! (as are all Last Unicorn cels ^_^) But the problem is that Last Unicorn cels are extremely rare... This means that even a dinky little image were you can see the face of a unicorn in about an inch of a picture will be worth at least $100... I think that the cel that I edited this pic from ended in the 1,000 if not the 10,000... (hell, it could have ended a lot more than that, I didn't keep track because I couldn't afford it :::sigh:::) But it was even rarer because it had a beautiful background! I had some other cel pics I could have edited but I liked this one the most. ^_^ I love this movie! And the book is sooo good, too! ^_^ Um... yeah, I think I said enough about that LOL.
Re: Yeah
Date: 2001-11-05 10:59 am (UTC)I've been having a terrible time finding that many sources...although not all of them have to be on anime, some can be on methodology stuff. so if all else fails I may just have a bunch on methodology and on some really background stuff, like media laws and regulation in both countries. But at least I now have some stuff...
