From googling on linux laptop, it appears that manufacturers of Linux laptops do exist and buy google ads. But all the Cool Geeks I've met seem to get Mac laptops, even if they use Linux as their desktop machine, and they probably have a good reason. (Although it may be that the reason is just that the Macs look cooler.)
I'm mostly happy with Linux, but I don't mind too terribly having to mess around with configuration files, and I actively enjoy fiddling with code, which is something that works pretty well on Linux. As safiiru said, newish distros are pretty user-friendly.
