I haven't found that. I've done all sorts of weird things—installed X11, installed the equivalent of apt-get, added fonts, added various codecs for QuickTime to access, installed things that weren't on disk images, etc.—and it hasn't been difficult at all. All you need to do is read the ReadMe file and it will tell you where to stick everything. If you're confident enough to use Linux, you can figure out how to do what you want to on a Mac.
