The problem is that plus size clothes don't really fit me that well either - I have large shoulders and obnoxiously large breasts, but will generally wear a medium or maybe a large in stretchy clothes that can handle The Boobs of Doom, so a lot of plus-size clothes come out awfully baggy on me. As near as I can tell, a lot of plus-size clothes are made for barrel-shaped women (especially swimsuits, which seem to think that it's all about band size and that plus size women still have B cups at best) and I'm pretty curvy. I'll probably hit up a few plus-size stores anyway, though, since they do have stuff sometimes.
The problem is the worst with vests because I want something of a bodice look where it's fairly snug around my waist. I'd also prefer the buttons start below my breasts to accommodate this look. I have one vest I actually modified until it looked right, but it's getting old and ratty now.
I hate the fashion industry so much. When I have more space and money, I am treating myself to a good dressmaker's dummy and a serger, and I will just start making my own goddamn clothes. I took sewing instead of science for all of 8th grade, and I might as well put it to use.
